We’re looking for a passionate and skilled Junior Sous Chef to join the friendly and dynamic team at Common Ground.

Common Ground is a unique cafe-eatery in Finsbury Park named as one of North London’s best brunch spots (The Nudge, The Modern House). We’re proudly independent, with good ethics and we look after our team. Our menu is vegetarian and we aim to run our kitchen sustainably.

Key Responsibilities:

The Junior Sous Chef will play a key support role to our Head Chef so this position would suit someone with solid experience looking to now take on more responsibility.

  • Support the Head Chef in managing and leading the small kitchen team, ensuring smooth operations and a positive work environment.
  • Able to take on management and coordination duties in the Head Chef’s absence.
  • Uphold the highest standards of food quality, hygiene, and presentation.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen, ensuring every dish meets our high standards.
  • Contribute to cost control, stock management, and liaising with suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in a similar role with a strong team player attitude.
  • Flexibility in working days and hours to meet rota needs.
  • Solid knowledge of food safety and a passion for high-quality food presentation.
  • Calm under pressure, with a commitment to maintaining high customer service standards.

Hours: 35 to 45 hours per week

Salary:

£17 per hour, often more – this includes tronc allocation
