JOB PURPOSE The Cafe Supervisor will lead the operation of the venue’s cafe, providing exceptional service and ensuring a welcoming environment for customers. Situated within a charitable music venue, the cafe offers a selection of freshly baked pastries, sandwiches, savouries, and baked goods. The role involves overseeing daily operations, maintaining high standards of hygiene and efficiency, and supporting the venue’s broader mission to foster community engagement and creativity.
The Cafe Supervisor will manage a small team of staff and volunteers, ensuring smooth service during events and daily operations, while aligning with the organisation’s values of inclusivity and sustainability. They will also play a key role in enhancing customer experiences, driving revenue to support the charity’s initiatives, and promoting the cafe as a vibrant social hub within the music venue. This position holds keyholder responsibilities and will act as a fire warden.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following is intended to provide guidance as to duties, but it is not exhaustive. You will from time to time be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within your capabilities as directed by management.
Cafe Operations • Oversee the daily running of the cafe, including service during events and general opening hours. • Ensure the preparation, display, and quality of freshly baked pastries, sandwiches, savouries, and baked goods meet established standards. • Regularly check the levels of drinks and products on display, replace them as required and notify the Front of House Manager of any low stock items. Where appropriate and in agreement with the Front of House Manager liaise with suppliers and order replacement stock. • Maintain an inviting and clean environment, ensuring tables, counters, and public areas are presentable at all times.
Team Management • Recruit, train, and manage a team of staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment. • Prepare staff schedules to meet operational needs and event demands. • Provide ongoing support, coaching, and performance feedback to team members.
Customer Experience • Deliver outstanding customer service, ensuring every visitor feels welcomed and valued. • Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints in a professional and timely manner. • Act as an ambassador for the cafe and the music venue’s charitable mission.
Health, Safety, and Compliance • Monitor food safety and hygiene practices, ensuring compliance with legal and organisational standards. • Conduct regular checks on equipment, stock, and supplies, addressing issues promptly. • Maintain accurate records, including temperature logs, cleaning schedules, staff training and stock inventories. • Ensure stock is stored and rotated correctly as per food safety guidelines and café requirements.
Financial and Administrative Tasks • Manage daily cash handling, reconcile till, and ensure secure cash storage. • Monitor stock levels, place orders with suppliers, and minimise waste. • Assist in monitoring and achieving sales targets, identifying opportunities to improve revenue.
Event Support • Coordinate cafe operations to support the venue’s events and performances, ensuring seamless integration of food and beverage service. • Collaborate with other departments to align cafe offerings with event themes or organisational campaigns.
Other • Ensure that the terms and conditions of liquor licensing law and our premises licence are understood and upheld by all Bar staff. • Act as a member of the fire evacuation team, facilitating the evacuation of customers as prompted by the Front of House Manager/or Duty Manager and acting Incident Chief. • Be always aware of general security and health and safety issues within the building. • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required.

Skills and Experience
Essential: • Previous experience in a supervisory role within a cafe, hospitality, or food service environment. • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. • Knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety regulations. • Experience managing and motivating a team, including volunteers. • A proactive, can-do attitude and ability to solve problems under pressure. • Barista skills and knowledge of food and coffee preparation.
Desirable: • Experience of duty managing. • Experience of working in a bar. • Hold a valid first aid qualification. • Hold a personal licence. • Passion for music, community, and the arts. • Experience working in a charitable organisation or not-for-profit environment.
