The Head Barista runs the day to day operations of the coffee program at our cafe. They will keep things moving smoothly on shift, ensure staff are up to speed and liaise with the Head of Quality when staff need training. They will deliver the best service possible to customers, and maintain strong relationships with management and suppliers, this includes the Roastery Team.
Vital to your success in this role is to maintain a positive outlook and encourage a can-do attitude within the team, always leading by example. As a Head Barista, you will have more responsibilities than other Baristas, who will look to you for guidance. It is essential, however, that you strive to implement structure which ensures the success of the Barista Team when you aren’t around.
Your aim is to ensure your team is working as efficiently as possible and provide an excellent experience for your customers. This is an exciting opportunity for you to excel as a leader and nurture a strong team.
Your main responsibilities will be:
Delivering excellent customer service including making recommendations to customers and answering any questions regarding coffee.
Preparing coffees and other beverages to our high standards, and ensuring that structure exists to make this repeatable on your days off.
Lead service on the machine, ensuring that other Baristas maintain high standards and that drinks are being delivered in a timely manner to create a smooth customer experience.
Assess the quality of coffee including dial-ups and ensure this is done in a supportive, non-invasive manner during service.
Make yourself approachable to the wider coffee team at Cairngorm, including the Roastery Personnel. You will be a part of the QC Slack channel to allow you to monitor notes on new coffees and ask questions/ give feedback.
Implement and monitor coffee specific cleaning sheets ensuring that it is completed daily.
Conduct stock takes of items required for serving coffee, and place orders through Orderspace.
Maintain grinders at Melville Place - this will require one later finish once a week.
Schedule and organise equipment servicing with Operations Manager where needed.
In addition to this, we expect you to bring ideas and energy to push forward coffee within the cafe environment. Some examples of this may be as follows:
Develop, launch and train staff on new drinks. There is an opportunity to launch drinks regularly inline with menu changes, especially adding to the current weekend specials.
Introduce new coffees to the shop/team either through Slack or other means.
Participate and help to host public cuppings within our cafe.
