Café and Visitor Services Assistant Manager Role:

The Café and Visitor Services Assistant Manager helps to oversee the daily operations to ensure the café and venue runs smoothly, efficiently, and profitably. This role requires leadership skills, excellent customer service abilities, and a hands-on approach. The Café and Visitor Services Assistant Manager plays a critical role in maintaining a welcoming environment for both staff and customers. We are looking for a person who is excited to give back to the local community and champions our mission and recognises the necessity for a can-do attitude and willingness to go above and beyond for the delivery of our vital community work. The role involves working closely with the Managing Director and there is scope for career growth for the right candidate.

Job Description:

Staff Management • Delegate tasks and supervise daily operations. • Provide training and ongoing support to team members. • Monitor staff performance and provide feedback. • Develop and maintain rota to ensure adequate staffing.

Inventory Management • Order café stock and supplies, ensuring appropriate inventory levels. • Oversee stock rotation and minimize waste. • Maintain records of inventory usage and costs. • Complete budget sheet with café spend

Food Preparation and Quality Control • Ensure food and beverages are prepared, cooked, and presented according to quality standards. • Collaborate with the kitchen and barista team to improve efficiency and consistency. • Manage and oversee preparation for catering requirements on site or for remote events (largely teas, coffees and sandwiches) • Oversee the set-up of a temporary bar for certain events on site.

Customer Service • Set and enforce high standards for customer service. • Address customer concerns and resolve issues promptly. • Foster a friendly, inviting atmosphere for customers.

Menu Management • Provide input on menu additions, deletions, and price adjustments based on customer feedback and trends. • Assist in menu updates and promotions.

Regulatory Compliance • Ensure compliance with health department regulations, alcohol licence laws, and safety standards. • Conduct regular checks to maintain a clean and safe environment.

Facility Maintenance • Oversee cleaning and maintenance of the café and equipment. • Address maintenance issues and ensure equipment is in working order.

Cash Handling and Register Operations • Train staff on cash cashing up and transaction procedures. • Oversee daily cash handling and reconciliation processes.

Classes, Events and Hires • Sign in classes, events and hires as they occur throughout the day or oversee this is done • Oversee equipment needs are in rooms for visiting guests if needed (usually flipchart or yoga props) • Oversee that staff are answering the phone, emails and maintaining exceptional levels of customer service and response time to all our visitors and their queries.

Additional Responsibilities: • Work as a barista on shifts and help with food preparation when needed • Contribute ideas for improving operations. • Train staff on drink preparation, use of coffee equipment, cleaning protocols, and sanitisation standards. • Qualifications: • Prior experience in a café or restaurant role, preferably with supervisor or assistant management experience • Strong leadership and organizational skills. • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices. • Excellent communication and customer service skills. • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting coffee equipment. • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. (normal days will be 3 weekday shifts with a 4th day on rota across our cover needs, weekends or additional weekdays as needed.
