Flexible Freelance Barista (Self-Employed) - Various coworking sites across London

Looking for flexibility?

We’re on the lookout for skilled baristas who are happy with varying hours week to week—no fixed schedules, just shifts that fit in with life. This fully flexible, freelance role is perfect if you’re after adaptable work to suit your availability.

You’ll be working across a number of coworking spaces in London, delivering exceptional coffee and friendly service.

About the Role:

We are currently recruiting several freelance baristas to join our flexible cover team. Hours will vary week by week, based on site requirements and your availability. You’ll need to be self-employed and confident working independently, managing your own station and creating a welcoming atmosphere for members and their guests.

About Us:

Volcano Coffee Works is one of London’s leading small-batch coffee roasters. We are primarily a wholesale business, supplying some of the city’s top restaurants and cafes. Sustainability and ethical sourcing are at the heart of what we do. We work closely with our partners around the world on community-based projects, ensuring our success benefits the entire supply chain and beyond—from initiatives at origin to local communities here in the UK. We believe coffee is a force for good!

Our Values:

We’re coffee enthusiasts who care deeply about our coffee, our people, and our clients. Our core values guide everything we do:

  1. Be straight up - Be honest in our interactions and stand for what we believe.

  2. Be invested - Own the final result not just your inputs and invest rather than transact in relationships.

  3. Be fair and fearless - Award opportunity based on merit and seize, seek and create opportunity.

Your Responsibilities:

• Run the barista station independently, engaging with members and guests, and serving beautifully crafted coffee in a timely manner.

• Follow recipes and preparation guidelines to ensure consistency.

• Maintain a friendly, approachable, and professional manner.

• Keep your station clean, tidy, and fully stocked.

• Report low stock to your Area Coordinator or Barista Manager.

• Develop and maintain expert knowledge of our coffee and share it confidently with customers.

• Act as an ambassador for Volcano Coffee Works at all times - with positivity and professionalism.

• Follow all operational and Health & Safety procedures on-site.

• Be punctual, reliable, and present yourself professionally.

• Carry out or assist with preventative maintenance on equipment, in coordination with your Area Coordinator or Barista Manager.

What We’re Looking For:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a barista in specialty coffee.

• A flexible, proactive approach.

• Trustworthiness and the ability to work independently—you’ll often be working solo.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Confidence using high-end equipment, including La Marzocco Linea PB espresso machines, Mazzer Robur S, and Mythos One grinders.

• Strong technical skills—you’re comfortable dialling in espresso and dismantling grinders for deep cleaning.
